Anyways, this year, we celebrated Christmas in true family tradition i.e. everything was planned at the very last minute (sort off). One of the reproducer's sister had the brilliant idea of having an Xmas luncheon one faithful day. Naturally, preparations for this particular event (as it was a strictly family one) was left till the last minute. This event was unlike that of The Party (which involved massive planning and preparation) as it was strictly for the family. If outsiders were invited, I have no doubt that the planning and preparation would have started sometime in November
.
The female head of the household did not want to do any cooking and hence, enlisted the help of her sibling (i.e. my aunt) and her two offspring that were in the country (the third is on a different continent). Now, it is a known fact that the two remaining offspring have got no talent in cooking whatsoever but did this stop her? No NO NO, a thousand times NO. She somehow got it into her head that all her offspring can cook (where she got this idea is totally beyond me). One might think that she just did not want to cater for this event as she didn't want to be held responsible for anything that went wrong
. To her credit, she did buy all the necessary ingredients and did most of the organistion (i.e. the additional tables, glasses, cutlery, air cond repair man, helping hands etc). As she now runs a cafeteria and has got permanent staff, helping hands were available.
Now, why a luncheon is totally beyond me. One would think that it should be a dinner as it would give the organisers more time to prepare but NOOOOOOOO a luncheon it was. This lunch was supposed to have started at approximately 1pm but in reality, it didn't start till about 2pm. Not that anybody minded as in true family fashion (I come from a very loud and boisterous family), everyone was too busy catching up. One would have thought that they hadn't seen each other in years!!
